The furore in Italy is a paygrade above the average Brit’s palette, but cooking pasta badly is easily done. Here is a method to cook pasta and save energy and keep it tasting good. The instructions are simple:

  • Soak the pasta for 2 hours in cold water (don’t forget the salt)
  • Throw the pasta into boiling water, bring back to the boil and simmer for two minutes (you can use the water from the soaking, as long as you realise it will get frothy)
  • Job done, energy saving: 50%
