Here are all the notes, links and resources we discussed at AI and Us in March, and a recap of the most important points from Maxime.

Links and Resources

  1. History of Artificial Intelligence: Generative AI or Gen AI (post 2022) is different from 1950s AI. Here is a really short video giving you some history of AI. 365 Data Science – Youtube: A Brief History of AI It’s important to note that Gen AI is a specific subset of AI that generates content.
  2. There is no such thing as a Cloud! Watch this TED Talk by Sasha Luccioni and check out the projects she leads
  3. There are more and more uses for AI, but which ones are really useful? AI today exacerbates a lot of problems we are already trying to do something about: misinformation, bias, social issues; and creates some new ones: non-reliability, cybersecurity issues, copyright infringement….
  4. AI introduces much new risk to society – see this risk infographic.
  5. Energy in the UK: we would need to double the current peak of energy for 140 data centres to enable all the predicted AI developments. How are we going to do this?
  6. This is the motto: Think before using AI! Here in Maxime’s shared folder is a guide with questions to help you think critically. You can download it on your device and open it in your browser directly. Check out the EcoCounts eco tip on staying on top of AI.
