Last Monday (2nd), we had a great session on urban food growing in London. Jack shared the floor with Katherine who discussed the Right to Grow movement in North London and the expansion of the Incredible Edible Network.
Our goal was to show that growing your own food in London is more achievable than one might realise. Whether starting out with planters on your windowsill or potted plants in your back garden, London offers a welcoming environment for growing everyday vegetables. Starting from seed not only keeps cost low but can also meaningfully reduce your carbon footprint.
At the end of the session, we had a great discussion with local community members and traded microgreens and lettuce seeds to help everyone get their garden started this spring. We also handed out some ready-to-plant chicory seedlings to add to your windowsill garden beds – many thanks to Barbara and Helena at the Tufnell Park Community Nursery for them!
Hopefully it left everyone feeling inspired to get growing.
