EcoCounts’ Adam will be running 5 sessions at St Luke’s on how we can all live move sustainably, starting on Tuesday March 8th, the week after Shrove Tuesday.
Lent is a period in the Christian calendar for fasting, contemplation and dealing with temptation, so what better undertaking can we do than tackle the temptations which are costing us the planet?
Modern society is on a knife-edge and we have plenty of material to work with, but these sessions aren’t only for people who want to earn a sainthood. In fact, participants will be creating their own program with guidance and group encouragement according to their own situations, and most commitments should prove to be reasonable and feasible.
We’ll be looking at the climate crisis, scaring ourselves about how bad it might get if we don’t do anything, asking what personal action can achieve, what Jesus might be doing if he lived in North London, what the end result might look like and other such things.
Here’s an overview of the five sessions we have planned:
- Eating and diet
- Shopping, getting stuff, making stuff, reduce-reuse-recycle
- Transport and travel
- Energy at home
- Advocacy and protest, long-term thinking and wrap-up

Prayer for Peace
Almighty God,
from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed:
kindle, we pray, in the hearts of all, the true love of peace
and guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom
those who take counsel for the nations of the earth
that in tranquillity your kingdom may go forward,
till the earth is filled with the knowledge of your love;

Prayer for the Earth
God of Creation,
You have taught us, through your servant St Francis,
That all creation is your handiwork.
Grant us your grace that we may
Exercise wise stewardship of this Earth;
Tread lightly upon it;
And cherish its resources;
That our children may enjoy its riches, throughout all generations,
And your name be glorified through all that you have made.
